Local guidance consistently treats it as a hazardous inlet requiring local knowledge: pass at idle speed, respect strong current near the bridge (reports of several knots are common on flood), and understand how ebb and flood set you relative to reefs and shoals. Moving sand reduces depths; wave troughs leave less water than a flat-calm glance suggests. When dredging or shoaling is active, timing with tide and giving way to vessels already committed in the channel becomes part of good judgment—not just point and go.
